François Montmorency de Laval
Collège Montmorency. Laval's only cégep was founded on 5 November 1969, and has 5 000 students in fifteen programs of study.

The college's name derives from Blessed François Xavier Montmorency de Laval (1623-1708), the first Bishop of Quebec, for whom the city of Laval is also named. He was born at St. Martin de Montigny-sur-Avre in Normandy. He entered the Jesuits and was ordained as a priest in 1647. King Louis XIV chose him as the first bishop of New France, a diocese that then included nearly all of North America; he was consecrated in 1658 and left for Quebec the following year. He founded the Seminary of Quebec (which later grew into Laval University in Quebec City) and forbade the trade of alcohol in the colony. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1980.
