ORIGIN OF THE NAME
Sir George-Étienne Cartier Boul. Cartier. Sir George-Étienne Cartier (1814-1873), a Father of Confederation, was born in Saint-Antoine, Lower Canada (Quebec). He fought in the Patriotes revolt and was exiled to Vermont. Having returned, he served in the legislature of the Province of Canada, and later as its premier. He was largely responsible for gaining French-Canadian support for Confederation. He died in London.

The platforms were originally meant to be accented with dramatic bright blue spotlights, as seen in the photo. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, they had to be removed before the station was opened.
