Pigeons
METRO PIGEONS

Passengers at Place-des-Arts metro at about noon on Tuesday, 26 March, 2002, were startled to see a small flock of pigeons in the metro. Three of the birds had somehow gotten into the station and amused travellers by waddling and flapping about.

Your humble photographer was privileged by chance to see the pigeons and captured their antics for posterity.

An employee of STM customer service confirmed that pigeons do occasionally enter metro stations, describing the situation as "outside the control of the STM."

Nevertheless, these birds have nothing on London pigeons, who have been known to actually board trains and ride them, getting out several stops later.

Update: More avian passengers have made their presence felt in the metro — sparrows are quite commonplace at Jean-Drapeau station. A ticket-taker and member of the metrodemontreal.com message board shot these photos and sent them in. Apparently, sparrows qualify for reduced fare. Thanks to lapetite!
